Bio/CV:
Marilyn began serving students as a counselor in higher education within the Centers for Educational Equity and Excellence, Division of Equity & Inclusion at UC Berkeley. Marilyn is trained as a direct-practice social worker in community mental health, and for over a decade, worked within Bay Area county health care systems to provide mental health services to the most vulnerable members of the community living with severe and persistent mental illness.
Her passion for serving people with disabilities is guided by the social justice ethos that all members of society have a right to meaningfully engage in, contribute to, and shape their communities and beyond. Marilyn believes in the promise that participation in higher education is a highly integrating force and a major determinant of positive life outcomes. She is committed to enhancing access for people with disabilities to all domains of public life.
Marilyn is passionate about disability justice, engages critical consciousness and anti-oppressive praxis to offer students space to re-imagine and re-narrate what it means to belong, achieve, and be well in higher education and beyond.
Marilyn is a Richmond, California native, mother to a wondrous little boy, and enjoys a variety of wellness practices that include breathwork, qigong, dance, comic books, and riding her motorcycle.
She holds a BA in Psychology and a Master of Social Welfare (MSW) from the University of California, Berkeley.
